We’ve all heard the much quoted, “All You Need is Love,” at least ten thousand times in our lives. But the beauty of this repetition is that it’s true!
Have you ever been having a crappy day and something as simple as a stranger kindly smiling at you seemed to brighten it up? That’s because it was a small gesture of love, and there’s plenty more where that came from!
“God is Love.” How beautiful is it to know that God himself is love? As I’m reading through my current devotional, Flourish by Margaret Feinberg, I’m learning a lot about love through the study and meditation of God’s word. Sometimes we think something or someone is showing love when in fact it is not. To be able to truly know the characteristics of love, we must look back in the word and see what God says:
Moving forward, if we could just show others more love and compassion, we could see and feel more of that within ourselves. Are you afraid of showing more love? Maybe you feel like being loving and caring isn’t your thing? Remember, “perfect love casteth out fear.” (1 John 4:18) We have to let our faith be greater than our fears. I know, I know. That’s something said so much easier than done. Well, if it’s any consolation, I’m right here working on it along with you. Where I choose to start is by showing others love and learning to truly love myself, regardless of how others make me feel. Who’s willing to join?!
**By the way, the above devotional, Flourish, is beautifully written and well worth the read. If you’re on the lookout for a new devotional that’s inexpensive, you can check out the link here.
